Taste and experience nature at Domaine Les Gonies
What to do
Here at Les Gonies, you will feel at home in the middle of nature all year round. In the spring, tranquility still dominates on and around the farm. Many birds return after the winter. These "guests" and the permanent birds are busy determining their territory with their singing. This is a wonderful time to track down, identify and photograph birds. Spring is also the time when the wild Orchids start to bloom. The Lot accommodates 50 different varieties.
The cool summer evening or morning is the ideal time to visit a game spot - an open space in the surrounding nature, where you can "spot" wildlife, looking for water and food with their young.
In September, when peace has returned after the peak season, the birds, butterflies and insects are still very active. If you take the time and are lucky you could discover 115 different species of butterfly.
For hikers and mountain bikers, 11 routes have been set out in the immediate vicinity, the descriptions of which can be obtained from us free of charge.
Cyclists of all levels can also enjoy themselves. In the Lot alone, 37 circuits have been set out, which are well marked and start and finish at the same spot.
These are in contrast to the 160 km long "Veloroute", which runs from Aiguillon to Cahors; mostly over the old railway line, but also along the river and small villages.
So bring your own bicycle, or rent one at a location near us.
The River Lot is perfect for swimming, canoeing (various rental companies in the area), fishing or taking a boat trip on a "Gabare".
Horse riding is available at a nearby equestrian centre. Here you will be able to experience the beautiful surrounds of the Lot valley and the local vineyards on horseback.
You will find a morning market on almost every day of the week. Often on the weekends a flea or antique market. In the summer months evening markets take place where you can buy food and wine from the local producers. Long tables are set out where you can eat and enjoy the atmosphere surrounded by a mix of locals and tourists. Usually with dance and music.
The area is abundant with picturesque villages, towns and bastides. A visit to this can also be combined with a visit to a castle, a descent into a cave with prehistoric murals or a visit to the downstream river in the Gouffre of Padirac. We are happy to advise you on a day trip.
Do you like art? The lovely town of Les Arques has set up a small museum with sculptures by the artist Zadkine, who spent his last years of life here.
The wine lover also has plenty of choice. In a radius of 10 kilometers you will find many vineyards that offer wine tasting and tours.
Of course you can also stay on the farm itself. Relax in the ecologic swimming pool or in the shade of the walnut tree.
"Listening" to the tranquility.
